Housework tasks to complete in February
February is coming to an end... (Finally, some of you will say!)
Hopefully the weather will start to warm up as we head into the early days of spring.
There's still time to be productive this month, especially if you want to get organised within the home.
We've put together some easy household jobs to get you motivated before the end of February. You'll definitely feel better and more positive going into March!
Inspect and clean gutters
Remove leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts to prevent clogging and clear those that have fallen in winter.
Check roof for damage
Inspect the roof for any missing, damaged, or loose tiles. Address any issues in a timely manner to prevent leaks which would otherwise be costly.
Test smoke detectors
Check and replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors if needed. It only takes a few seconds to check but could save your life!
Trim trees and shrubs
Prune overgrown branches to encourage healthy growth and prevent damage during winter storms. This will also help to create a nicer outdoor space when the weather gets warmer.
Weatherproof windows and doors
Check for drafts and seal any gaps with weatherstripping to improve energy efficiency.
Inspect the HVAC systems
Schedule a professional inspection and maintenance of your heating system to ensure it's working efficiently and not wasting energy. This will help to keep your energy bills as low as possible.
Clean dryer vents
Remove lint build-up from the dryer vents to prevent fire hazards and improve how well your machine works.
Clean and organise
Declutter and organize different areas of your home, starting with one room at a time. This will not only improve the way your house looks but is a great way to boost mood and feel accomplished in what you do.
Check insulation
Inspect the insulation in your attic and add more if necessary to ensure you aren't losing heat from any areas of your home. This essentially would cause high bills for energy you aren't even benefitting from.
Inspect plumbing
Check for any leaks in pipes and faucets. These can often be missed if they are only dripping but could turn into a bigger problem in the future. It's important to resolve issues promptly to prevent water damage.
Clean and service chimney
If you have a fireplace, schedule a professional chimney sweep to clean and inspect the chimney.
Prepare garden beds
If you're a gardener, start preparing your garden beds for spring by clearing debris and adding compost.
Check outdoor lighting
Replace any burnt-out bulbs in outdoor lighting fixtures and ensure pathways are well-lit.
Check emergency equipment
Inspect and replace any outdated or malfunctioning fire extinguishers. You may need these in an emergency so not something you should skip!
Inspect and clean appliances
Clean the coils behind your refrigerator and check other appliances for any issues. Ovens can develop a lot of dirt and residue after everyday use and it is recommended you clean them around every 3 months.
Check attic ventilation
Ensure proper ventilation in the attic to prevent moisture and mould, and improve energy efficiency.
Clean and seal deck/patio
Clean outdoor decks and patios, and if needed, apply a fresh coat of sealant or stain.
There are plenty more things that you could do around the house, these are just a few examples to inspire you! Remember to take it slowly and set yourself daily goals so you don't burn yourself out trying to do everything at once!
