Beach Day Essentials: What to Pack for a Fun-filled Day

The sun is finally here, hurray!

If you’re looking for things to do or ways to keep the kids entertained this summer, a beach day can be a lot of fun.

There are around 1,500 beaches in the UK and Ireland, including Achmelvich Bay in Scotland, Kynance Cove in Cornwall, Whitby Sands in North Yorkshire and Porthcurno in Cornwall. These are just a few examples but there are plenty more out there for you to visit and explore!

It’s important to ensure that when you head out on your beach day you not only have a great time but remember to pack everything you need for the trip.

Here's a list of some essentials to take on your beach day…

Sunscreen

Protect your skin from harmful UV rays by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Reapply every couple of hours, especially after swimming or paddling, or when you have been sweating in the heat.

Beach towel

Choose a large, absorbent towel which you can use to sit on and dry off after swimming.

Swimsuit

Pack a comfortable swimsuit or swim trunks so you can enjoy the water to the fullest.

Sunglasses

Protect your eyes from the sun's glare with a good pair of sunglasses that offer UV protection.

Hat

A wide-brimmed hat or a baseball cap will shield your face and neck from the sun.

Cooler bag

Keep your drinks and snacks cool by bringing a cooler or insulated bag which can be bought online, from supermarkets or at your local home furnishing retail store.

Drinks

Stay hydrated by taking plenty of water and other beverages like sports drinks, coconut water or fruit-infused water.

Snacks

Keep hunger at bay while you're out by bringing a variety of snacks like fruits, nuts, granola bars and sandwiches. After all, you’ll need to keep your energy up throughout the day.

Chair or blanket

A portable beach chair or blanket will provide you with a comfortable place to relax on the sand without getting dirty.

Money

Take your wallet or purse in case of emergencies or to treat yourself at a local café or tourist shop. Remember that not all establishments accept card so it’s a good idea to have a little cash too!

Beach toys and games

If you're going with friends or family, consider taking beach toys like frisbees, beach balls or sandcastle-building tools. This is a great way to keep them entertained as well as bond with each other..

Baby powder

If you're going to a sandy beach, bring some baby powder to help remove sand from your skin easily.

First aid kit

Pack a basic first aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic wipes and pain relievers. You probably won’t need them but it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Bin bags

Be mindful of the environment and people around you by collecting your litter and disposing of it correctly.

Change of clothes

Always have a spare change of clothes readily available in case you get wet or want to head somewhere after the beach.

Remember to check the beach rules and regulations before you go and always respect the area by cleaning up after yourself. But most importantly, have a fantastic beach day!
