Summer activities for all the family

Summer activities for all the family

We are finally seeing some sunshine in the UK, hurray! With just a couple of months left until summer officially begins, the weather should (fingers crossed!) get progressively better over the next few weeks.

There are plenty of things to do when it warms up outside, whether it's going for a walk, heading to the beach or taking a picnic to the park. It's important to get fresh air and stay active when you can, and encourage all the family to do the same.

If you're struggling for inspiration, check out some of our fun activities below!

Picnics

One of the most popular choices of activity is to head to your local park or beach for a picnic. Pack some sandwiches, snacks, and drinks, and enjoy time outside with your loved ones.

The great thing about this one is that it suits everyone, and you can even take your dog along too!

Hiking

Why not set yourself the challenge to explore new nature trails or mountains together? If you want to make it extra fun, you could play games or set a scavenger hunt along the way.

Go camping

Spend a night under the stars, roasting marshmallows, telling stories, and enjoying the great outdoors. This is ideal for couples who want to have a romantic night, or large groups which it might be hard to accommodate for indoor sleepovers.

Beach day

Who doesn't love the beach? Get your friends together, pack your towels and bucked and spade, and head to the beach.

You could build sandcastles, swim in the ocean, have a game f beach volleyball, or simply relax and soak up the sun.

Bike ride

Sunny days are the perfect time to take a family bike ride through scenic routes or explore new places you might not have been before. There are lots of handy bike route websites online, including one from Cycling UK which helps you find and plan your next adventure.

Outdoor movie night

This is a must- do activity for any movie-lovers out there. All you need to do is set up a projector in your garden or even move your TV outside and enjoy a movie night with popcorn and blankets. The question is, what film will you choose?

Water fight

When it heats up outside, there is nothing better than cooling down with a water fight. You can use water guns or balloons, and this activity is sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike.

Fruit picking

If you fancy doing something a little different this summer, you could visit a local farm like Parkside Farm, where you can pick your own fruit. While picking strawberries, blueberries, apples, you can teach kids about where food comes from in a fun and hands-on way.

DIY crafts

Get creative with DIY projects like making tie-dye shirts, painting rocks, or creating bird feeders to hang in the garden. You could even do arts activities outside, like chalk drawings, making sun catchers or painting fairy houses.

Visit a zoo or aquarium

Spend a day learning about wildlife and marine creatures at a nearby zoo or aquarium. There are plenty scattered around the UK so you should be able to find one relatively easy.

Outdoor sports

Play football, frisbee, rounders, cricket or any other outdoor sports together as a family. This is a great way to bond but also add a bit of fun competition too!

BBQ

Cook up a storm on your BBQ and invite all your favourite people around to enjoy the tasty food. When the sun comes out, so do the BBQs in the UK!

Book your next holiday

Fancy heading away this summer? If you are planning on taking the kids away, you will need to book ahead to fit in with their school holidays. For those that have a bit more flexibility for when they can travel, you might want to grab yourself a last minute deal to save you money.

Don't forget, there are plenty of budget options available for getaways and you could even stay local or travel to a UK holiday or camp site.

We hope you found these ideas useful and if you have any more you think we've missed, we would love to hear them. Feel free to get in touch on social media or by leaving a comment on this post.
