Our Top 5 Magical Christmas Movies

Christmas is just around the corner and we hope you are joining us in getting into the spirit. You will no doubt have seen that festive films have started making an appearance on your television screens (which we obviously are really excited about!)

There are lots of different ones to choose from and each has its own unique magic. We have put together a list of our top 5 favourite, along with why we love it, in case you fancy watching them this year.

 5 - Die Hard

Some people ask ‘is it a Christmas film?’ And we would say ‘yes, of course it is!’ Although not a conventional festive movie, it has an exciting plot that will keep you on your toes. The story follows New York cop John McClane, played by the one and only Bruce Willis, as he tries to save hostages (including his estranged wife) from terrorists on Christmas Eve. A must-watch for any action-lovers out there!

4 - The Polar Express

The Polar Express is a firm favourite for little kids and big kids alike. The main character, who has become sceptical of whether Santa is real, takes a journey to the North Pole. He is joined by some uplifting characters, from the unique train conductor and dancing waiters to the lovely little girl who becomes his friend. They must work together to save the train and its passengers, and make sure they all arrive to see Santa and his elves.

Tom Hanks, along with the stunning music and cinematic effects that really were ahead of their time, have made this film a hit with families around the world.

If you want to experience the true meaning of Christmas, the magic of believing and the importance friendship, this is the movie for you!

3 - Elf

“Santa, I know him!”

No Christmas film list would be complete without Elf and it has secured its place in our top 5 mainly because it is so funny. From the four main food groups of ‘candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup’ to outing the fake Santa, this film is guaranteed to have you grinning from ear to ear.

Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel work perfectly together in this movie, through their incredible singing and perfect, believable chemistry.

We learnt lots of things from Elf, including not taking yourself too seriously, doing what you love and the amazing power of believing in something.

2 – Home Alone

Can you believe that this movie was released over 31 years ago? After all this time, it’s still a classic and when you hear the word “Kevin?!”, you know it’s about to get interesting!

The story follows 8-year-old Kevin McCallister who misbehaves the night before the family trip to Paris, and inadvertently gets left behind. As if being home alone isn’t enough, he also has to protect his home from two criminal robbers, who will stop at nothing to get what they want!

Filled with comical pranks, a wholesome family feel and magic

enthusiasm from the main character, Home Alone is the Christmas film that just keeps on giving. It also teaches us not to judge a book from its cover, and that family and love aren’t things to be taken for granted.

1 - The Grinch

And here it is… Our number 1!

The Grinch has everything you can ever wish for in a Christmas movie. Lovable characters (despite the sassy attitude of the Grinch, we still love him), incredible costumes and acting, and the heartfelt learnings in the story. We see the Grinch, who was rejected earlier in life, finally find his place in society, surrounded by love ones and experiencing the true spirit of Christmas.

And if this isn’t enough, there are lots of hilarious one-liners which are guaranteed to leave you smiling. One that we can all relate to is: "Stupid. Ugly. Out of date. This is ridiculous. If I can't find something nice to wear, I'm not going."
