Autumn activities for all the family
Autumn is well on its way, and many parts of the UK are already experiencing the colder, wetter weather.
But the change in season doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom, there are still plenty of fun activities that you can do with your kids, pets, friends and family.
We have put together some autumn activities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, whether you want to enjoy nature and the outdoors or fancy getting creative and crafty.
Pick a pumpkin
Head to your local garden centre to find the perfect pumpkin for your Halloween celebrations. Carving them can be a fun activity to do with the kids, and you can even use the leftovers to make toasted pumpkin seeds, bread or soup if you fancy.
Leaf collecting
Why not go on an outdoor adventure and collect leaves on the way? Once washed, you can then use them for craft projects or even turn them into a leaf scrapbook.
Nature hikes
Explore local parks or nature reserves throughout the UK and enjoy the array of autumn plants and foliage. You can make it a fun learning experience by identifying different types of trees, flowers and animals along the way.
Head to a bonfire
Autumn is the perfect time to head to a local bonfire where you will be able to admire the mesmerising flames and perhaps see some fireworks too. These typically happen in November but you may see them earlier if you are lucky.
Seasonal crafts
Get crafty with themed projects like making leaf garlands, starting a new diamond art of even renovating your home.. If you want to get ready for Halloween, you could also paint a pumpkin, make your own costume or make some decorations to celebrate the spooky occasion.
Baking
Spend a cosy day indoors baking autumn treats like apple crisp, pumpkin bread, or cinnamon rolls. Everyone can pitch in with different tasks, from weighing and chopping ingredients to washing up afterwards.
Movie night
Is there anything better than snuggling up to watch a film when the weather is miserable? Get your blankets out and stock up on popcorn and other snacks, before choosing a film - be it a classic favourite or completely new!
Picnics
There should still be days of good weather as Autumn sets in, meaning that you can continue to picnic in the park. This is perfect for catching up with friends and family, and will keep the kids entertained.
Gardening
Take this time to plant bulbs and seeds for spring flowers and prepare your garden for the winter to ensure that it still looks beautiful all year round.
Volunteer work
Consider volunteering as a family at a local shelter, food bank, or community event. Giving back is a meaningful way to spend time together while helping a worthwhile cause.
Outdoor sports
Play sports like flag football, soccer, or frisbee in the crisp autumn air. It's a great way to stay active which is good for physical and mental health.
Camping
Pack up your tent and backpack before heading to your favourite forest or campsite. You can relax around the campfire, tell stories and stargaze.
Remember to consider the ages and interests of your family members when planning activities to ensure everyone has a good time. Autumn is a season of opportunity for family bonding and creating lasting memories.
